Are you guys ever going to get off gnome and switch to KDE?

yea, "gconf-editor" is a very good tool for customizing the Gnome desktop.

It's not designed like the Windows system registry (low level system entry's). So it won't break your system if you play around with it to much.

And if you really need to recover the default settings (in gconf-editor), then you only need to delete ~.gconf/ and ~.gconfd/ directorys. Then log back in to the Gnome desktop.

No need to reinstall Linux at all :)
