Virtualization in Win7
I want to buy a new CPU, one that will support new features like hardware virtualization. Before I move to Windows 7 from Windows XP, I wish to find out if its Windows XP Mode will work for my 32-bit programs under the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Has anyone even tested this?
Mitch, Windows XP Mode, the virtual XP install that you can use in Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate, is 32-bit. And you won’t be able to use hardware 3D acceleration in Windows XP Mode. But you shouldn’t need to resort to virtualization to run most of your 32-bit apps; they should run just fine on 64-bit Windows 7. Windows XP Mode is only for apps that won’t run natively at all on Windows 7. For apps that will run, but aren’t optimized for Windows 7, use the Compatibility tab (right-click the application and select Properties, then the Compatibility tab) to use Windows XP settings.

The main benefit of Virtualization in Win7 is software it is portable and will run on most Windows operating systems. It will display if the cpu supports hardware virtualization.

I've found some tutorials with some techniques of virtualization at shared files SE http://filecraft.com . Besides, there is a nice Windows 7 Virtualization forum. I think you'll be able to find a lot of additional information.

I use a program that takes modules from muliple hearing aid mfgs., some use 16 bit apps within. Compatibility mode in win 7 32 Bit got me zilch! With the native Vir P XP mode, they run (but slooooowly, as does the whole virtual PC) The integration features allow for USB use (for what I need; wireless connection, usb harddrive and optical drive).
Sure I'd like to have full use of the Quadro 8700 video adapter, but I only run vir pc for business (and Microsloth states that IS its intended purpose, after all.) 16 bit apps do not run in 7 ultimate, so I'm glad they provided a way for me to use them, even if it is somewhat hamstrung wi regards to speed, etc. Defrag, chkdsk all wrk within, but some updates are "hidden" even tho' I didn't hide 'em! Remember to insall your firewall and antivirus into virtual machine if connecting to the web! Now I want a way to "trick" win 7 (32) into using more than the 4 gig limit!
If you want to KEEP a Constitutional Government... Get involved NOW!

Not only does vmware player work much better than the xp mode bits, but you can use vmware converter all day long to get your systems into the vmware format with ease.

You are saying right, i have also tried it earlier that we can use in Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate, is 32-bit. And you won’t be able to use hardware 3D acceleration in Windows XP Mode.

VMware is better than this crappy Windows 7 XP Mode. The virtual graphics card isn't crapped out with RDP quality and the 3D Acceleration is available, even though I hate the VMware graphics card since it doesn't support Windows 3.1. Why the heck did MS Drop Virtual PC! That software was awesome and much better than XP Mode!
Use VMware and dump that crappy Windows Virtual PC.

Ever since XP came out I have been trying to find a legacy program that works with compatibility mode with no luck.
With XP Mode I have managed to get one program to work which is one more than compatibility mode.
Both are worthless and a waste of time. If a legacy app will not work in WIN 7, you are SOL, and I don't mean the Satellite of Love.
