Ask the Doctor - Send to Whom?
I’ve noticed a weird problem on a clean Vista 64 SP1 install. It first happened when I was using Picasa. I selected some photos and then hit “e-mail,” but Outlook 2007 never popped up. I first thought it was just a Picasa problem, so I ignored it.
I then tried right-clicking a small file, choosing Send To, Mail Recipient, and again Outlook 2007 didn’t open. As I understand it, the program should have opened a new message with the attachment.
Do you have any idea what could be going on?
If that doesn’t fix the problem, here’s another option. Click the Start button and type regedit in the Start Search field. The registry editor should pop up. Browse over to the following directory: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.MAPIMail. The default key in the data field should read: CLSID\{9E56BE60-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}. If it doesn’t, make it so. Then restart your computer and see if the mail function works.

well I'm actually Jordan Grant so here's an update... The problem is pretty much fixed when I removed some unecessary startup items and removed a buggy cd burning suite. Not sure what exactly fixed it but there you go. I still have a problem with the vista snipping tool--I can't send as attachment to email from the snipping program. Who knows.

I've seen Outlook 07 fail to launch too many times to count on Vista machines... A quick look at Task Manager shows that the outlook.exe is still running. Simply right-click and end process, then relaunch Outlook. I still don't know why this happens, but of the top 10 support calls I take every day, Outlook not launching ranks #2.

We should have a 64-bit users forum or something here. Well not right here but somewhere on MPC.com
