Welcome to the new MaximumPC.com!
So much has changed since I started out writing on the web. I was an editor at Ars Technica, where every single page on the website was a hand-written, flat HTML file. We handled all the formatting ourselves, using the dreaded FONT tag. Posting a simple news story was really two jobs, first you had to write the story, then you had to bang out the HTML and put it on the website. It was a real pain, but the only other alternatives were expensive, and limiting custom posting tools created for large corporate websites.
The popularity of blogging has spurred development of web-based tools that make posting content on the web simple and easy enough that anyone can do it. We just redesigned our site to take full advantage of everything that Movable Type has to offer. Now, we can do lots of stuff that was either infeasible or difficult when we were working with our custom publishing engine.
So, now our website is easier to post to, and more flexible. That's great for me, but what does it mean for you? The last thing that the web needs is another tech news site. We're not going to take on Slashdot, News.com, or even Boing Boing. What we will do is give you Maximum PC-style analysis of the day's top computing news stories, and let you know what we think about the topics that every PC geek is talking about.
If there's a story you think we need to talk about, feel free to shoot me an email or post about it in our forum. The address is will (at) maximumpc (dot) com. I hope you enjoy the new site!
