After weeks of speculation and rumor, we finally have an official Motorola Xoom price. According to Reuters, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha has confirmed at Mobile World Congress that the Xoom would be priced at $799 for the 3G version on Verizon (no subsidy), and only $600 for the Wi-Fi only tablet. It's not a low as we might have hoped, but at least that $1200 Best Buy price turned out to be just a placeholder.
The $799 price for the 3G version is a little steep comparatively. The 32GB iPad with 3G is $70 less. Clearly the Xoom has some better specs, but consumers are not always lured by the checkboxes. The Wi-Fi version will actually be dead on with the cost of the corresponding iPad.
Jha did not let slip the date the dual-core tablet will be available, nor if there would be a subsidized version available from Motorola at some point. How do you feel about this price?

While I own an Ipod touch, I hate the Apple way of doing business. It has the best interface and functions, but things like a 30% fee on apps? Geez, and we thought the mafia was dead!
Anything that puts Apple's feet to the fire is good by me.
I'll definitely be checking out the Xoom.

$600 and no BS contract that got my attention. I still want to see a windows tablet possibly with a specific version of the OS only for tablets/slates or some kind of alternative GUI that loads. Cause a regular version of windows on a tablet like this will not work. Are you listening Microsoft?????
I want web, PDF, Office, Outlook, Flash, in a slate tablet. Grab the tablet, keys, wallet and im gone.
And if you do need cell connection here is a good 3g device...$50 for 2.5 gigs a month no contracts. Just saying. Its virgin wireless so your using sprint g3.

Well, cooler heads are finally prevailing. A proper touch-screen OS. A lower price. No Verizon Overload control plans. We're moving in the right direction now. My interest is now caught.

Xoom is among a few Honeycomb tablets that have my attention. I'm interested in the Wifi-only model and $600 is the absolute most I would pay for it. I feel like everyone should be holding their breath for the iPad 2 announcement to make sure the Xoom is still a good buy.
Xoom + portable keyboard + 3g smartphone tether makes for a robust mobile entertainment & productivity package.

I'm torn. I was planning on picking up the iPad 2, but after Apple's recent 30% subscription I can't in conscious support a company that tries to weasel money out of developers for doing virtually nothing. I am considering the Xoom, but I'm still not all that excited with the Android Market. I may just hold out to see what settles: Apple withdrawing the 30% fee, or better Android Market apps.

I don't have much faith in the Android marketplace, but a fully-functional browser with flash support solves a lot of the reasons to have an app store in the first place.

The only thing the app store would be good for would be a one-stop-shop for newbs to this tech. That is probably something Google could easily run for free, if they aren't doing so already.
