PSA: Crysis 2 PC Leaks to the Web – For the Sake of PC Gaming, Please don’t Download
The original Crysis was almost universally praised as a technical masterpiece, even if it was slightly ahead of its time from a hardware standpoint. Continuing the trend of being “ahead of its time”, the PC sequel has leaked to the web almost a month ahead of its official release. EA has confirmed the existence of an “incomplete, unfinished build”, and has expressed deep disappointment at the news. Crytek is making a public appeal to fans of the franchise to hold off for the final release on March 22nd, and we hope our readers will do the right thing.
Several online publications are pointing to the rapidly spreading torrent as further evidence that PC gaming is screwed long term, and it’s hard to deny that reports like this aren’t a serious a blow to our favorite platform. Destructoid’s editor Jim Sterling went so far as to say he would “pull the PC version of Crysis 2 right now” if he were in charge of EA. We for one are glad he’s not in charge, but his rant certainly take those who feel they are entitled to pirate software to task in a pretty serious way, shooting down justifications for such behavior one by one.
Do you think news like this justifies the draconian DRM we are forced to put up with? And do you think it endangers the PC gaming platform? Let us know what you think.
