Microsoft Pokes Some Fun at Apple's App Store

What’s more ridiculous than a “moustaches of the world” app? A certain Redmond software giant hopes your answer to that is “the Apple App Store”. The new ad for Windows Marketplace pokes a bit of fun at Apple and their App Store. Microsoft is obviously of the opinion that there’s a lot of junk in Apple’s App store, and their approval process is terrible. While they may be right, will people get the joke?
The two fellows in the ad give the viewer a tour of rejected Windows Marketplace apps. They’re all pretty awful, but at least they weren’t approved. They mention at the end of the video that the apps that made it through the approval process would be pretty great. Since they’re both wearing lab coats, you should probably believe them.
Even with the App Store’s flaws, the Windows Marketplace has a lot of catching up to do. This ad probably isn’t going to help them win mindshare. Do you think the ad is effective, or does it just come off as a random collection of gags?

Yes, these guys are wearing "lab coats". And they're obviously in a lab setting, correct? Wrong! I spend half my day in biotech labs and last I checked, Laboratories dont use restaurant style swinging doors!!!!! I'm sorry Microsoft, but EPIC FAIL!
sorry double clicked post

you better believe that this will work i'm not picking a side i really do not care
if you say something, even if it is an untruth, long enough there are lots of people that will, over time believe it.
you do not have to actually know what is being said to understand that ms is making fun of app..... so some will come to believe that app is something to be laughed at..
look @ smoking for decades the adds for tobacco would have you believe smoking was safe, and @ 1 time even made you healthier. (late 50's/early 60's adds would have you believe that smoking actually helped if you had a cold or flu)
even though over 450,000 people die each year from tobacco related illness.
you better believe marketing works

Just won't make sense to the average user..."Is Microsoft anti-App?" is the question I feel like most normal people would think.
agreed

most people probably won't understand what they're trying to say. All I really get is that they're saying a lot of apps doesn't mean a lot of useful apps. Ok, point made. But yeah, people won't really understand. Do enjoy these random videos though, but don't think airing them on TV is going to do much.
