You may remember Kno, the company trying to sell students on their massive dual screen tablets. Well, according to All Things D, Kno is in talks with two different consumer electronics manufacturers to sell off their hardware business so they may focus entirely on software. If you have one on order, it might be a good idea to cancel.
The Kno tablets ran for $599 or $899, with the lower of the two being a single screen device, and the higher price was for the dual screen tablet. Kno has shipped several hundred pre-orders o far, but those shipment seem to have stopped. Those familiar with the situation say that Kno has decided the rapid uptake in other tablets has left little room for their integrated hardware and software solution.
It is expected that Kno will focus on software for the iPad and Android platforms. Kno has strong relationships with numerous colleges around the US, so perhaps students in the coming years will be using the Kno textbook app on their existing tablet.

One of the reasons I wouldn't buy an iPad right now is because it's too expensive and underpowered. Both are equally important. The serious competition (like this one) does of course have better specs, but it's also more expensive, so I still can't afford one. I don't think I'm alone. I think the iPod will be safe as king until something can make something better for cheaper, and I haven't really seen anything near that yet.
I am excited for how things will look in a few years.

Doesn't seem to be a huge loss to me. This device was going to either be heavier than hell or have a crappy battery life.

Yeah no kidding, lugging around several text books is a cake walk. Why would you want to have them all in this heavy ass thing with notes and probably video? ;)
For battery life, they have a single screen version, and there is nothing stopping them from putting an extra battery within the cavity of the secondary screen to nagate or even improve battery drain. Think positive man!!
