Daily Show Deal Cost Hulu $40 MIllion
All Things D is reporting today that the Hulu deal that resulted in the return of The Daily Show among other programs cost more than you might expect. Those close to the deal say Hulu is paying at least $40 million to Viacom. The payment could go up depending on the performance of the content.
The length of the deal has not been disclosed to the general public, but Viacom has said the arrangement will go into 2012. We suspect a 2 year deal. The Daily Show and Colbert Report will be available the day after they air, but some other Viacom properties will only be on Hulu 21 days after their premiere.
Hulu likely expects to increase ad revenue with these popular shows, and they're going to have to considering the price they paid. Are you more likely to watch Hulu with these shows once again available?

I pretty much only got to see The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report on Hulu before they left. I'm super stoked to see it come back to hulu.
@aviaggio, the quality is better on hulu and at least the ads wont crash the vid. I do agree that ads are annoying but Comedy Central's website is worse.

Yes. More likely. I used to watch these shows on Hulu. I tried to watch it at Comedy Central, but found their interface annoying, so I just stopped watching.

I dunno. Considering you can watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report episodes at their respective websites what's the point of dealing with Hulu and their obnoxious ads?
And really, 3 weeks before you can see stuff like Tosh.0? That's pretty retarded.

I mostly used hulu when I didn't have cable, now I only sometimes use it if I miss the couple shows I watch on NBC's Thursday night line-up. I did, however, watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report when it used to be on Hulu while cable-less.

I usually just go to the daily shows website for full episodes, but it would be great if it was on hulu, which i already use.

Meh.
Does Hulu show anything from Adult Swim? I'd like to catch me some Robot Chicken, Metalocalypse and Venture Bros.
John Stewart is a Communist and detests America. His entire routine is topically covering a news headline and making a funny face near the end of the segment or raising the pitch of his voice. It gets old. Colbert = much better.*
Hulu is a great site and I hope it sticks around, but I don't watch that much TV and Hulu hasn't done _that_ much to change that.
