Could the Xperia Play be a Verizon Exclusive?
A chart posted on phone retailer Wirefly's site today may have given us the last real piece of the Xperia Play puzzle, the carrier. The chart was comparing the Xperia Play to the Apple iPhone, and under carrier, it listed the Play as being available only on Verizon. We expect Sony Ericsson to give us the details on the upcoming Mobile World Congress.
The Xperia Play has a slide-out game pad much like the PSP. It will be running a 1GHz processor, a 4-inch 854x480 screen, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread under a slightly modified skin. Verizon has been anxious to snap up all manner of exclusive Android phones, so this doesn't come as too much of a surprise. Since Verizon is CDMA, we assume there will be a different SKU for the international GSM market.
Do you think Wirefly's information is on the up and up? If so, are you Verizon customers going to consider picking up an Xperia Play?

All I have to say is that this would really hurt Sony Ericsson sales to make a move like this. Why do we keep giving “exclusives” to carriers?!?!?! Do what Samsung did with there Galaxy Series; All major carriers! These companies (like Sony) do not carry enough popularity or desire in the American market to give exclusives to certain carriers.
I absoultly love the PSP Phone (Xperia Play). It is the perfect concept on many levels. I would probally buy one if I did not already own a Samsung Vibrant and it was released on T-Mobile. Along with this, the PSP 2 is what I am waiting for. A quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 5-inch touchscreen OLED display with 960 x 544 resolution, dual analog sticks (not nubs as on the current generation), 3G, WiFi, GPS, a rear-mounted touchpad, the same accelerometer / gyroscope motion sensing as in the PlayStation Move, an electronic compass, and cameras on both the front and back (and quoted to say as or close to as powerful as a PS3 in a handheld, Amazing).
Give the PSP Phone to all carriers! It will make everyone happier!
