if someone is not willing to pay $200 for Windows 7, why would Apple think that they would pay $2700 for a new computer

So, I'm an IT manager and I've installed and used every version of Windows from the very start. Starting about 4 years ago I needed a laptop and bought a windows based machine. Well, over two years I went through 5 machines because something was always breaking and usually at the most inconvient times.

Finally I gave into my brother in law's (who is very much a Mac fanboy) promtings and bought a macbook pro.

Other than having to pay the apple tax, this is the best move I have ever made. I always use boot camp to install windows and it runs perfectly, and for the times I do use OS X I'm always able to find decent freeware that does that job the way I want it.

So, you payed through the ass for a Macbook, which runs PC hardware, to install Windows via Boocamp and then use MacOS from time to time.

Can anyone tell me how that was an intellegent move?

I almost switched this summer.  There are things I really like about the MacBook Pro and OS X in general.  I used one for a few weeks and really liked it.  But, I didn't like it $2700 worth (price of the MacBook Pro I would be looking at). My wife liked it too, and her computer was a 6 year old HP laptop that was on its last legs. So, we got her an iMac (24").

She loves it.  I don't know if I will ever pay the Apple tax.  And then, once I am out of the 'convert' mode, I see the commercials II'm a Mac, and I'm a PC) and I want to vomit.  they are so misleading and generally crap.

The sad thing is I think that Apple and PC resellers (Dell, HP,ect) could learn something from each other and a hybrid between the two might be very popular. Finding the ground between style, build and price.  Unfortunately for Apple, it seems some retailers are starting to get it.

Anyway, Apple seems very much the 'benevolent dictator'... look, computer user, you don't know what you need.  Trust me; I know what you need.  Just do what I tell you to do with the tool I give you for doing it.

"Are they just after people who don’t know any better?"

that's exactly who they're after, whether they be dirty pirates or not, they want the type of customer who'll pay 3 times as much because they're laptop looks nice when placed next to their mochiofrappyichinos and manbags when they sit down in public places.

It's just Apple being themselves again... Their attempts at converting PC users are nearly as lame as the people who actually go through with it.

if would-be pirates think that windows isn't worth paying a reasonable amount then they sure as Frick won't think that macs would be worth paying through the rectal sphincter (also known as the butt-hole)

Of course, they could download a hacked version of Mac OS (for Hackintoshes) and run it on their computer just for spite...
