Will "Beats by Dre" really be something that the stereotypical hipster Apple users will be into?

BEATS by DRE!

cuz if you can't sing, you can always Rap...

and if you can't hear, there's BEATS by DRE!

Apple should buy my marketing Company for 5 Billion

For that kind of money, I can even make it Rhyme

oh, stop it.

rap is fine, it has its market. some of it is actually good.

Dre and a few others from the late eighties basically created rap as we know it. give the man some cred.

The Beats brand however, is another issue.

I have a lot of Angry Rap as well as screamer rock and metal but Come-On Dude!

I enjoy Alice Cooper and AC-DC screamers as much as any rappers out there but they don't mix well with mellow love songs in a playlist

Not everyone has a beutiful singing voice, but anyone can scream or Rap or both

Dre might not be a "Classical" Screamer, but like I said, anyone can Rap!

The Mac

haters gonna hate...

im not a fan of rap, im a rocker, mostly on the alt/hard side...

but i have to acknowledge pioneers, and Dre was one of them.

You a Hater?

Maybe you missed the point....
If you can scream while holding pitch, level, a beat and a rhyme, you can make a load of money with the right people even with throat cancer and a tracheotomy

But that doesn't make you a singer

I'm not really into Dre's stuff but if you can show me one of his works where you think his beautiful singing voice nails a mellow love song, I'll be the first to admit he's a singer

Some rappers CAN sing, but anyone can Rap!

Oh wait....
I can't hold pitch!

OK, almost anyone can Rap!
How's that?

If your only definition of a singer is someone holding pitch, level, a beat and a rhyme, then he is as much a singer as anyone who can mumble incoherenty or scream at the top of their lungs within that narrow definition

It's just not MY definition of someone who can sing

Most of the rappers I've heard can't or won't hold pitch or level either, so maybe I can be a rapper

and what if they can't hold a beat?

What the hell IS a Rapper anyway?
OK, now I'm confused!
Thanks a lot Mac

Created rap as we know it? That's not something for the man to be proud of. Sure, I've laughed at the juvenile lyrics and the whole "gangsta/thug" image of rap culture but I've yet to find a rap song that didn't make me question what rap stands for: Retards Attempting Poetry :)

I always wondered why Beats was hit and miss. Now I know. It was a way to get better performance out of speakers but it wasn't a replacement for quality to begin with.

Tuned crappy audio sounds better than unturned crappy audio but isn't as good as good audio components.

Though maybe I still don't understand the tech.

the smug buying the smug. all we need is to be told how "superior" their new crapple ear buds are now. only for the low low price of an additional $599. beats' sound is like mud in a barrel. i'd rather use tin cans and string

avatar

The Mac

I actually like beats.

The tech, not the products.

I hacked it into all my phones (hero, evo 3d) and it sounds significantly better than stock.

avatar

Bullwinkle J Moose

Beats doesn't have "Tech"

They have a snake oil gimmick

Here is a great explanation of the beats gimmickry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdbn_pmxFic

NONE of the "hardware" improvements were invented by Dre

Only the gimmickry to sell overpriced crap

Just what a Crapple Fanboy wants!

I had just the opposite experience with Beats on my HTC One. In my opinion Beats made my music sound horrible. Beats was the first thing I turned off on my phone.

avatar

The Mac

maybe its something about the one then, i got a galaxy s4 this generation.

avatar

Eoraptor

Well, this certainly goes a long way to explaining why Beats stepped away from its deals with HTC and HP earlier this year. It wasn't just a corporate shift, they were probably already well into talks with Cuppertino even then

I know nothing of beats streaming music, but the headphones are crap. They sound exactly like the $10.00 headphones from Wal-Mart. The only reason they are popular is because of marketing with the Dr. Dre name which kids that have never heard anything better are buying up.

Beats is just like Monster. Over priced and over hyped. I have an HTC One phone with Beats audio. Beats was one of the first things I disabled on this phone. Sounded like crap. All it did was make the music a bit louder and added too much bass. Sound was distorted. Let Apple have Beats. I don't do Apple either.

avatar

TheDorkSide

Are they going to by Monster Cable next? Fashion buying fashion.

I think this is a great idea for Apple. This will allow them to begin competing with Spotify, Xbox Music, and Pandora, services that have cut into their Itunes profits quite handily.

avatar

The Mac

Beats is not a streaming service, its an audio dynamic range expansion technology and headphone brand

Dr Dre is the spokes person.

HTC had an exclusive deal with them to include the technology in all phones.

avatar

Paul_Lilly

Actually, Beats Music (the Beats-owned and recently launched) streaming service is likely a big reason why Apple is pursuing this deal, or so the speculation goes.

avatar

The Mac

ah, didnt know they launched a service.

Thanks for clarifying.

Their website appears to be AFU, perhaps they never actually launched

lol

avatar

Paul_Lilly

It's getting hard to keep track of all these services: Pandora, Spotify, Xbox Music, Samsung's Milk Music (stupid name), Beats Music, Rdio, Slacker, iTunes Radio, Grooveshark, Google Play All Access Music (stupid name), Rhapsody, and the list goes on.

avatar

The Mac

no kidding.

I used to be exclusively pandora, but now i use slacker.

I like their stations.

Pandora's picking algorithms were always a little off for my taste.
