We're not going to ask for a show of hands on this one; if you own an Apple iMac, that's your business. But as a courtesy to our readers who like to play the field, even when doing so requires dancing on the dark side, we want you to be aware of a recall that affects "a very small number" of Seagate brand 1TB hard drives found in 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac systems.
Affected machines include those sold between May 2011 and July 2011. According to Apple, the 1TB Seagate drives in those systems may fail under conditions, though Apple didn't specify which conditions exacerbate the problem. It's also worth noting that only 1TB hard drives are affected by the recall, so if you're sitting pretty with a 2TB HDD or SSD of any size, you're in the clear.
If you think your model iMac might be affected, you can plug in your system's serial number on Apple's ' iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program ' page to find out, and then choose one of three contact options (Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, Apple Technical Support) to have it replaced.
