GTFO with this 1080p garbage. I dont understand the appeal of 1080p i NEVER ran 1080p, i went from 768 on 17inch on my first gaming computer to 1200p on my second CRT flat panel NEC. im just saying 1080p looks like crap, and i dont understand the appeal.

While I agree higher resolution is nice, there's just a small problem. Displays don't have this thing called Moore's Law to help lower the prices. For the same amount of silicon of a 15" panel for example, you could fit about 7-8 5" panels of the same resolution (which is why mobile phones keep getting higher resolutions than anything else).

4K and beyond is going to take a really long time to adopt simply because the amount of resources it takes to build those displays goes up. And we if don't find something else to improve, then well, the display technology field is going to stagnate, a lot.

EDIT: Well, I should probably make an addendum...

Display sizes need to remain constant and then start perfecting manufacturing for that size. Like the 24" 4K display from Dell is a good place to start. And then I think around 8K is probably going to be the highest resolution that's appreciable to most of the world at where desktop monitors should sit before you can't really resolve individual pixels that well for 24"

I agree with everybody else, 4K or bust.

What does it matter, if there are no video cards that can run modern games at a steady 144 frames per second?

And, even if there were, 1080p? We have been stuck in Kiddie Console Resolution Land long enough.

Sadly, 1080 is still a "stretch goal" for the current consoles.

Does it have a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000:1?
If not, I'm not interested.

1080p. Meh. $300. double meh. For a 24-incher to be $300 it better be 4k or touchscreen. Sure the refresh rate is lag free but you can still see jaggies without AA enabled. Give me 4k on a 23-inch screen and I don't care if its 5ms or whatever. I won't see many jaggies without AA enabled.

I concur. 1080 is yesteryear's tech.
