I just purchased the shield on a whim. I found it quite nice and much faster than my ASUS tf700 tablet. I thought the huge controller would be a hindrance when using it as a Tablet but it's actually quite comfortable in bed. It acts like a stand, so I lay it on my chest when I'm laying on my back Web surfing or playing games using the touch screen. The game streaming is pain in the ass, but when it works it works well but when the host computer doesn't want to cooperate then it's a trip to downstairs to deal with the bullshit.

The first gen sold well enough to warrant a 2nd gen? I'm genuinely staggered to my core.

Careful, your bias is showing

I don't have a horse in the race so no bias here. I don't really play mobile games unless I'm doing my morning duties on the toilet. My phone works fine for that purpose, I don't need a $300 device to do it, lol.

No one I know has an interest in the Shield either. I just have a hard time picturing a huge market for it.

Phones are 1080 and going higher...

Enigmatistical

...on a 5 inch screen

Glorified 720 on a 5" screen still leaves the pixel structure visible :(

I'm not sure how Nvidia's software handles the UI but on normal Android devices the resolution makes a huge difference: the Gmail app on my tablet is quite different in layout and usability than is the same app on my lower-res phone.

I owned a SHIELD. When you're playing, the most comfortable viewing distance is far enough away that the lower resolution is of little bother to none.
