Android Market on the Web Goes Live

Paul Lilly

Android Market on the desktop? You betcha! Google went and extended the Android Market client from mobile devices to the Web, where all you need is a browser to sift through and purchase apps. Any you select are then automatically downloaded to your Android-powered smartphone or tablet over-the-air.

The initial release is in English only, though Google says it will be adding more languages in the weeks ahead. Browsing the Android Market from a browser is easy-cheesy. There are three tabs at the top, including Featured, Top Paid, and Top Free. Selecting one of these instantly refreshes the app list directly below. On the left-hand side is a long column of categories and sub-categories. Two main categories populate the list -- Games and Applications -- and are broken down into 33 sub-categories between them.
