When 20nm maxwell arrives it'll be just like before

I had the 4990 and currently run the 6990. I dunno about the 8990 though:

My 6870/6850 Xfire setup is losing steam. It really hasn't been the almost-doubling of performance that I thought it would be. I blame the software--the game developers--for this. If I want to game at 1440 I'll need to upgrade as this setup is in the 40s in The Witcher 2 @ 1080 :(

But I don't want to get anything newer just to see it instantly outdated, obviously.

That seems unreasonable, i get that will just a plain old single 7970.

Are you using ubersambling?

avatar

vrmlbasic

No ubersampling for me. Whether I max everything else out, or use the recommended settings the FPS is about the same. When I go into the shop/prep area @ the Arena in TW2 I get into the mid-40s depending on my view. Other times it is 50-60 but I don't think that FRAPS has ever shown it being higher.

Are you using Radeon Pro or forceing AA in CCC or FXAA/SMAA by injector?

if not, try using radeon pro and changing tessellation to the program default rather than AMD optimized.

Ive found that AMDs optimizations are a bit aggressive on older cards.

Even on my 7970, i can sometimes gain 10fps just by changing that.

Looks like they will be revealing them on September 25th

Now the RUMOR is that once AMD announces the new GPU family, Microsoft will drop their NDA and say that they have several GPU cores based on this family inside the XBox One. Strictly rumor with only one somewhat shaky source for all this.

The Mac

The announcement will be on the 25th via webcast.

Shipping begins in october.

Competitions is always good for the consumer. I hope AMD can significantly challenge NVidia on performance and still undercut them on price.

I'm pretty excited that they're focusing on the price point. For me, gaming isn't about having the latest and greatest, it's about having the best I can get on my budget. AMD already kills Nvidia as far as the lower end models go. If they can continue that, they'll further their hold in the $75-$200 GPU range.

John Pombrio

These will be high end cards equivalent to the 700 series or better in the $450-$600 price range from what I heard.

AMD is going to stick it to Nvidia this 4th quarter.

avatar

Innomasta

Stick it huh? 9 times out of 10 Nvidia has matched and/or outpaced AMD/ATI in graphics matters since 08, the only exception being the 400 series vs the 5000 series, I will concede ATI to that one.

The Mac

and vice-versa.

its just an ongoing game of leapfrog.

As much as I want AMD to kill Nvidia for awhile, and as satisfying as it would be, i'm reserving my judgment until I see it for myself.

That's pretty funny...
