Few things maxim missed. First the fraud that was already committed by Raptr/AMD.

They had announced a soft launch of the program back in december and told users that for up to 6 hours a day they could earn a total of 360 pts/day for playing games and running their app. Their app is spyware that datamines information from our systems.

They then later, last week, after people had spent up close to 350 hours decided they would revalue the points to a fraction of those points, up to 12 hours worth of the already performed 350.

They also have tried, after the release, to convince the community that it wasn't a soft launch but a beta program, trying to convince us that they had the right to take away our points after we had already performed.
They even went as far to convince the community that AMD wasn't involved.
Nothing but fraud and lies here, and yet a reputable magazine is going to promote them.

Careful MaximumPC not to lose face also.

Dude, lay off the drugs...

1. They ALWAYS, i repeat ALWAYS maintained it was a beta from the very beginning, if you didn't catch that, that's your problem. Even the slides from the developers conference back in October said beta on them.

2. Yes, they revalued the points. So what. They also revalued the redemption costs as well.

Deal with it.

3. The store hasnt even been live yet, so the point values are meaningless. If you were counting on 120,000 points for the 280x they had as a placeholder, again, your problem.

4. Many, Many people won games back in November, and December so using the app clearly had its value.

5. If you think they can crowd source settings, and give you personalize game play analytics without actually transmitting data, you have a comprehension issue on top of everything else.

You are obviously pissed at something because nothing you went on about makes any rational sense what so ever.

All of these "Everyone is evil and out to steal my shit" rants are really becoming tiresome.

1.
http://raptr.com/sorako18/news/52b374db1de88442fe/amd-gaming-evolved-app-release-notes-preview-the-loyalty-program-12-19-13
Shows it was not a beta but launched to a limited group. The app is in beta, and still is. The rewards program is a separate entity from the app and was never called a beta till well over a month after its launch when RAPTR/AMD started lying to us to cover up the misrepresentation of the original program. Instead of just stopping and adjusting the program they allowed it to continue for another month with all intent of adjusting the program to greatly benefitting themselves, committing fraud.

2. Yes the revalued the redemption cost, but not at the same rate. They set up a promise from the above link that my time up to 6hrs a day would be worth 360 points a day, and at 30k points (60 dollar game) or 120k points (300 dollar video card) that it would take roughly 3months and 10 months to earn those prizes. All those number provided above. After fulfilling our end of the agreement some over 350hours since launch, they only honored up to 12 hours.

3. They misrepresented the values by using such placeholder, aka mislead us to believe one thing with no intent of fulfilling that. They could of shown the rewards with out putting a point value on them.

4. Different program all together.

5. Some people don't understand this concept since it is not clearly stated.

Am I upset, well wouldn't you if you realized you had been cheated?

Even now many of the points earned are ambiguous as conditions are not clearly stated on how to earn them.

The Mac

I dont feel cheated in the slightest

I knew it was a beta from the moment I installed it. It was well labeled as such.

I used points i earned to enter the giveaways, and will do so again when they resume. The rewards program is part of the program, therefore it is also beta. I draw no distiction between the two.

I don't care that they re valued the points, as the store was not active and it was in beta. Since there was nothing to buy, the point values are arbitrary and meaningless.

Point earning activities are clearly labeled on a page if you look in your alerts.

I really have no issues other than the cluttered interface, and craptastic browser.

I don't concider myself any more observant than the average person, so I realy don't understand your outrage.

ShadowViper

Yes the application was a beta as stated. Again check the link it shows the Rewards program, a separate entity, was launched. Even this news article is talking about AMD's released program and not the beta application. Of course if you don't understand these things and believe the lies you were fed your not going to feel cheated. And since you don't consider yourself "any more observant than the average person" goes to show how many were cheated and don't even realize they were.

avatar

The Mac

again, the rewards program is part of the app.

it is not separate.

You cannot take part in the rewards without the app.

Your insistent focus on the literal meaning of the language outside of the whole context is why you are upset.

avatar

ShadowViper

Wrong again. You can collect points by going directly to the website and participating in the community. More proof, the application is still yes is still in beta if you use it, it clearly states that on top..

I installed this last year, and entered the contest drawing everyday. I actually won a silver award once, 2 free games. Not bad.

I've avoided installing this Raptr application when I install AMD drivers. How do they make money off of this?

avatar

ShadowViper

One like any community the size of that community will have a natural value, bigger they are the more they are valued, think facebook, twitter, youtube. Also because the software is spyware they data mine your system and make money off the information gathered.

avatar

The Mac

Its run by Raptr.

its Funded by ads mostly.

They have a surprisingly robust community.

It uses very little overhead, so i dont mind it in the background if im earning points towards free loot.

The interface is a bit busy, but i assume they will work that out once it comes out of beta.

One interesting thing is it allows crsossplatform chat.

The browser needs some work though, it frequently crashes.

avatar

ShadowViper

Its actually funded mainly through the data mining it does.

Your definition of free is wrong. Free is doing something with out being asked anything in return. They are clearly asking for us to do different tasks/actions to earn points toward items.

avatar

The Mac

My idea of free is minimal effort. Not no effort.

I don't give a rats ass if they data mine my gaming habits.

I'm a grown ass adult, I don't care.

If I get free shit, they can have my porn collection too.

Lol

avatar

ShadowViper

Again your idea of what free is wrong. A gift is free.
Since effort was asked for in exchange, regardless degree of difficulty, its now compensation.

avatar

The Mac

symantics.

most people understand to get free stuff, they have to do some work.

a gift is just that. a gift. Its given to you with no effort on your part.

Free implies no fiat exchange, not no work. If you have to walk to a store to get your "free" item, you are performing work. If you have to fill out your address on a cetificate and mail it in to get your free it, you are performing work.

It seems your idea of free is where the problem lies.

avatar

ShadowViper

Not my idea here is the definition pertaining to the way your using it:

exempt from external authority, interference, restriction, etc., as a person or one's will, thought, choice, action, etc.; independent; unrestricted

When you have to do something in return, there are now restrictions involved, to receive that something it is not independent of the action needed.

avatar

The Mac

whatever, your being pedantic.

Im going to play games and continue to get what i consider free shit.

you do what you want.
