Haha, I saw the picture of Jimmy on the AMD Facebook page when the stream went down and one person said you were the nVidia spy who sabotaged the stream. :P

I hope the if there was an embargo on the new cards, it will be lifted soon and we can see if the new R9 really is giving the Titan a run for its money. Might finally get nVidia to stop the price gouging on those cards.

This is nothing new, honestly. AMD has always been one step behind nvidia, and this will be no different.

"Chris Roberts doing Battlestar Gallactica. Can we get past super fast switching of scenes and lens flare?"

No, it seems that we cannot. Whether it be games or Hollywood movies those crutches have to be employed. :(

I'm still skeptical of Chris Roberts after Freelancer. Loved the game, despite its flaws, but it had almost no resemblance to what was promised. I know that M$ pulled the plug on the project but there should still have been some of the ideas that he promised.

He always struck me as one of those overly-optimistic guys who loses himself in his ideas. This video, and MPC review, reaffirmed that. As such, I fear for this game.

I see people are already whispering Titan-Killer... As great as that would be, doesn't a full blown K20X pack a full 7.1b transistor count? But apparently AMD is achieving 5 Tflops of compute versus Nvidia K20X's 3.95Tflops?

I love these GPU wars.

I got a brand new XFX HD 7950 DD today. Should I return it and wait for the new R9s?

avatar

Nimrod

im building a new personal dream machine for work and i sure am. I dont think you will be unhappy with an R9 :)

OrganicSoldier

I'm wondering the same thing. I was planning on buying an 7950 next Friday to complete the first part of my build upgrade, but I'd consider waiting if the new cards are coming out pretty soon.

so whats new for laptops? been holding off on a new GPU for my m15x. especially since 8XXX is nothing more than a rebrand of 7XXX for laptops anyeway.

Even if this is a "Titan killer", it's AMD's next generation of GPUs, which means we'll just have to see what NVIDIA pulls out next year with Maxwell. And if that's a "Hawaii killer", then we're pretty much in for a wild ride of NVIDIA dominance or AMD dominance every 6-8 months.

The livestream is cool and the tech in the new Frostbite is cool. Its just to bad BF is published by EA. I have swon of ever giving money to EA again. Fuck them.

I don't understand why they make an event like this to show off the graphics cards, seems like a waste of money and time.

They could have just posted pictures of the card online with the specification and pricing.

Nothing really special to show off or explain that wasn't expected already...

Agreed. I watched the whole show and the reveals were completely anticlimactic. Been quite a few of these types of conferences lately, mostly to do with the new consoles. SONY's conference at the Tokyo Game show was about the same, lots of talk, demos, and a very few new reveals.

Hey.That_Dude

Please be a Titan killer! (LOL, just messing with ya!)

This sounds great...(ha). However, is the audio going to be transmitted back on the PCIe Bus to my sound card or are we talking external amp only?
Also... eyfinity version for crossfirex4 and 3-4 4K monitors... sexy... please?

avatar

AFDozerman

Yeah, I have no clue where that hextuple (hexatuple, hexa-post?) post came from. Stupid ads always screw with my comments.

avatar

Hey.That_Dude

Yeah. I almost never get on to MPC on my phone because I don't have any of the ad removal on there... takes twice as long to load and I get pop ups almost every page. Same reason for never signing in on my phone, let alone posting.

avatar

John Pombrio

I do not think that there is ANY change in how the audio is pumped out. AMD is only saying that their new card has enough processing power to drive new audio software.

avatar

lacky32

I may have just missed it because I haven't been here the whole time, but how is the new audio being output? Is it being sent to the motherboard audio, or is it only through the HDMI outs?

avatar

AFDozerman

Please, for the love of god, be a titan killer...

That link above works. Thanks. Just started 4PM EST.
25K viewers and climbing.
AMD is planning to have cloud gaming servers like NVidia is developing.
PC Gaming spending by consumers is growing, $18 billion this year to $21 billion in 4 years.

R9 is Enthusiasts. R7 for Mainstream. Complete line from top to bottom. From $89, $150, R9200 at $200. R9280X $300.

R9290X top of the line. 4GB memory needed for 4K monitors. Oct 3rd for limited BF4 bundle. No cost given.

No announcement on what AMD GPU cores are driving these cards yet.

New R9290 series (assuming the 290X) 1st card to 5 Tflops. 300GB/s memory bandwidth. 4 billion triangles/second. 6 Billion transistors. DirectX to 11.2 standard. (11.2 will only be supported on Win8.1 and XBox One at first). Again, no mention of what core is used.

4K display monitors moving to mainstream in the next few years. UltraHD is going to a VESA standard without any setup needed for compliant monitors/TVs.

Way too much time spent on audio processing. Considering how most use 2.1 speakers and that SONY has done multichannel from stereo years ago. If I want 13.1 surround sound, I will need a much larger living room!

Whew, finally out of the audio side.

Ruby's hair is now being windblown when she is doing bullet-time. Lots of light flare and some light reflection in the demo. Frankly, not that impressive.

Chris Roberts doing Battlestar Gallactica. Can we get past super fast switching of scenes and lens flare? AAA game crowdfunded for almost $20 million! (Note: most kickstarter projects get absolutely NO funding, do not think this is always a easy way to start a business!)
Chris mentions the Rift and stereoscopic viewing! (I tried the lower res production Rift over the weekend at the Maker Faire but the guy made me take my glasses off. No sale there as I could not see jack without my glasses!). Chris is kicked off for time...

Heh, AMD is losing viewers, down to less than 18000 now. They need to pick up the pace!

Apps and PC gaming. One called Raptr demoed. Free live streaming via twitch. Raptr is trying to match NVidia's Experience to optimize game settings.

Over two hours into the conference. I am outta here. Keep going Jimmy!

Wait! A black shirted guy saying One More thing!

Dice Frostbite 3 engine 15 min video...

EA BF4 Angry Sea level demo. that is NO WAY to treat a computerized command and control center.
