AMD Catalyst 11.2 Drivers Now Available for Download

Paul Lilly

AMD this week shoveled out its new Catalyst 11.2 software suite with support for Radeon HD 2400 series on up to the HD 6900 series of desktop and mobiltiy GPUs. It also supports several FireStream products (9170, 9250, 9270, 9350) and AMD chipset product families (300 series on up to HD 4290). Catalyst 11.2 is a more fleshed out driver update than usual with a handful of new features and a whole bunch of bug fixes.

The 11.2 package includes a couple of Catalyst AI texture filtering updates, new tessellation controls, official support for morphological anti-aliasing for the Radeon HD 5000 series, and new video quality settings controls during Blu-ray 3D playback. There's also a couple of notable performance improvements, including:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops: Performance increases up to 11 percent on Radeon HD 5000 series (single card configuration with AF and AA enabled)
  • Batman Arkham Asylum: Performance increases up to 4 percent on Radeon HD 5000 series (single card configuration with AF and AA disabled)

Resolved issues run the gamut from getting rid of corruption when running the Unigine Heaven benchmark under Windows 7 to fixing a bug that could cause Civilization V to stop responding during launch in Windows XP.

For the full list of fixes -- and there are a lot of them -- see the release notes here . You can grab the new Catalyst 11.2 suite here .
