At its “ 30 Year of Gaming and Graphics ” event, which the company broadcast live via Twitch on Saturday, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced the addition of a new graphics card to its Radeon R9 family . While the Radeon R9 285 is very close to its predecessor, the R9 280, in terms of specs, the new card is built around the company’s new Tonga Pro GPU.
The R9 285, which like the R9 280 packs 1792 stream processors, 112 texture processors and 32 ROPs, boasts a maximum boost clock speed of 918MHz (base clock speed unknown), which is a bit less than that of its predecessor. However, with a TDP of 190W, it is considerably more power efficient than the R9 280, which has a 250W TDP. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of their specs:
