Bored with six cores already? Maybe it's time to do double up, and if you have a deep wallet to work with (and the right platform), you can certainly do so.
Provantage has apparently begun taking orders for AMD's 12-core "Magny-Cours" Opteron X12 chips ahead of the part's official launch. The 12-core processors range in clockspeed from 1.7GHz to 2.4GHz and come with either 16MB or 18MB of combined cache (L2 and L3).
The chips are all built on a 45nm manufacturing process and draw between 65 watts and 105 watts of power. Provantage is selling the parts starting at about $800 (6164) and all the way to around $1,500.
