Amazon Really Wants to Put a Kindle Under Your Tree, Offers Free Two-Day Shipping

Time is running out if you still haven't slid any presents underneath the Christmas tree (for those of you who celebrate the holiday), and you have even less time if you prefer to shop online. But it's not too late to snag a Kindle online, not yet anyway. Amazon is offering free two-day shipping -- a deal normally reserved for Prime members -- to customers who order any Kindle device, including the Kindle Fire, by 8PM PT on December 21 (tomorrow).

"The new Kindles are hands down the best gifts you can give this holiday season, and we're making it even easier to give a new Kindle this Christmas with free two-day shipping," said Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. "We created the Kindle family to make it easy for people to do the things they love. Kindle, Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G are for people who love to read and want the best reading experience in the world. For $79, customers are buying multiple Kindles to use as stocking stuffers. Kindle Fire is the most successful product we've ever launched and delivers a fully-integrated service that makes it easy to do the things customers love - watch movies, listen to music, download apps, play games, read books and magazines and surf the web - all for the unbelievable price of $199."

A $79 stocking stuffer? Maybe in Ricky Schroder's Silver Spoons household (anyone remember that show?), but in my home growing up, I was stoked to receive a $0.99 Matchbook car or Silly Putty amid all the filler. The Kindle would have went under the tree. But I digress -- wherever you decide to put a Kindle this holiday season, the two-day shipping is a good deal that saves you from paying sales tax (and fighting the crowd) of picking one up locally.
