All-in-One PC Shipments Will See Strong Growth in 2013

All-in-one PC form factor gains steam

High prices used to hold back the all-in-one (AIO) form factor, and to make matters worse, they've never been known for being easy to service and/or upgrade at home. All of that is starting to change, and when you throw Microsoft's touch-friendly Windows 8 operating system into the mix, AIO systems suddenly seem a lot more appealing than they once were, resulting in a boost in global shipments.

According to Digitmes Research's latest figures, AIO PC shipments will have climbed 17.3 percent year-over-year by then end of 2013. Apple's iMacs are a big reason why, and even though the platform only grew 2.3 percent last year, Digitimes Research expects iMacs shipments to "grow significantly" this year.

On the Windows side, Lenovo will give up the lead in AIO sales as HP sees slight growth. Dell and Sony will enjoy "strong increases" in AIO shipments, and collectively, the top vendors will leave little room for smaller players in the AIO category.
