Just out of curiosity I decided to see if you can make a build with the same specs for the same price or cheaper.

Yes you can (mostly), with the OS included.

I think the value here (for businesses) is in the security and specialty software included, along with the nettop form factor.

With a business, you'd have to add-in labor costs to assemble them too.. if you are buying 400 new computers for your company.. i doubt you'd want to pay a bunch of people $18/hr to assemble them all, install the software, test them, then move them to their final destination and turn them back on again and do a final test.

For just one guy getting something for himself who has the knowledge of how to put a PC together? yeah, i probably is more cost effective to build one yourself.

I suppose you could install CentOS/RedHat or some other Linux distro of choice and knock off $140 from my BOM and get something like that.
