Honestly, who cares what the cost of the printer is as long as the cartridges are reasonably priced and well stocked?

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

When did a CNC machine become a printer?

If only Hershey wasn't such a horrible chocolate.

Its a cool idea, but turning it into reality isn't going to happen. No one is going to fork out a ton of money to buy a candy making machine. The cost is what will sell it and my guess is its going to be expensive.

LOL I cannot be the only person who thought of Willy Wonka when seeing this.

I want a 3d printer for bacon

Wake me up when I can print a beer.

Confectioners will be buying this. As a consumer not sure how big of a market there is unless your some upscale culinary elite who has fancy parties and wants to custom make chocolate for them.
Still anything that advances the art and technology of 3D printing is bonus for us. Remember when color was expensive and only business and copy shops had the capability, now you can buy inexpensive color printers. The same is going to happen to 3D printers. Right now only really niche market, but in time prices will fall, and quality will improve. Eventually, we will be downloading and creating custom color plastic parts inexpensively.

Agreed.

For example, instead of selling and packaging 100 different types of chocolate you could just sell the necessary items and people could print whatever kind of chocolate they desire at home; a business could print custom chocolates on the fly and save lots of time.

A lot you can do if the idea is refined in application. People who say it's a stupid idea are really narrow minded fools; already see them popping up.

If only hollywood would stop "exploring" the "3d printers make 'illegal', unsafe guns" plotline.

Ya, I mean... why bother making the bar when I can stuff my face into the bag of printing material? I'm a bit confused on that one... OK, for a special valentines or something sure but...

avatar

fellowleo

I suppose the value here is not printing chocolate bars but all the other forms that you can get in chocolate, such as bunnies, eggs, pens, coins, cameos, etc... If this can be done cheaply and easily, it would put a little pressure on the novelty candy business...

Another face-palm moment for society.

3D printer technology used for cute sayings on the top of processed fattening foods, just what the first world needs. Duck-face bas relief chocolate portraits coming soon to weddings and sweet-16 overkill celebrations.

Can you imagine the clean up after a chocolate bar is printed? How do you insure the 'ink' doesn't go bad? What if ants find your printer?

Although, to be fair, I'm not sure what ACTUAL benefit 3D printers are going to get the average person that could even afford such a device. I understand this is great for prototyping and testing in simple manufacturing mock ups, but it's a very expensive way to print out discolored lost Lego bricks. CAD programs are hardly intuitive, and that's a big barrier to entry.

Face Palm?

If people want to let them, there is no harm, and it sounds neat. Yes, because printing things on chocolate signifies a pathetic and declining society. (Face Palm)

"Can you imagine the clean up after a chocolate bar is printed? How do you insure the 'ink' doesn't go bad? What if ants find your printer? "

I'm sure the people developing these things already thought of this.

Fully supported by cardiologists and dentists everywhere.

So, I'll have to buy 3D Cartridges filled with Chocolate to Print Chocolate Bars? This is truly a stupid idea made by morons too deep into this 3D printing craze.

avatar

Led Weappelin

Me not understand the whole 3D printing thing.

avatar

JosephColt

Because it can be an incredible utility.

So now people will eat print cartridges.
