Don't forget Quake 2. It was the first to offer translucent water. I still remember thinking that was the coolest part of the game.

I think you mean H2O and not H20 ;)

Anytime someone mentions water and video games, I immediately think of Super Mario Sunshine.

Half Life 2 had some of the most realistic water . Although not beautiful, it was extremely immersive.

Rift2

Everquest Landmark has some pretty cool water.

I was wondering if that Hydrophobia game would make the list, since water physics was its claim to fame. I see that it did. Perhaps someday I should play that game, despite the "terribad" reviews that it got.

I was surprised to see that Just Cause 2 made it on here as, despite running AMD tech and it being a dated game, I thought that the water looked pretty good. It's nice to see that I'm not alone in that ;)

Battlefield 4 had some of the most dynamic water I've ever seen!

The problem with many water effects is that it ripples the edges of objects not in the water. Until that's solved, it comes off as totally fake to me.

I wasn't a huge fan of the game itself (or the genre in general), but I thought Path of Exile had very good water/wetland areas for the kind of game it was.

I think you're missing a crucial game here: Silent Hunter 5. You know, considering the game is built around water. -.-

Hell even Silent Hunter 3 and 4 have amazing looking water.

Confession time - I have never played any of the Silent Hunter games. The only submarine game I played was Wolfpack back in 1990.

What video?...no link anywhere!
And my favorite water was when I first got Far Cry with my Athlon 64, it looked so real!

Click on a game's title (it's highlighted in red) and you'll be redirected to a video that features the water. :)
